The idea to stay open for training during the winter months stems from the ongoing competition for horses in the racing world. All the upgrades are geared towards trying to keep horses on the grounds during the offseason.Ģ021-2022 was the first winter the track remained open for training in the offseason, and 300 to 350 horses remained.
In 2021 a 50-room dormitory for backstretch workers that care for the horses on the grounds was added, and in 2022 they constructed a winterized barn with 105 stalls will be ready for horses in March. Horseshoe Indianapolis began a significant enhancement and expansion to the property in April 2021, bringing nearly 25,000 square feet of new gaming space, including a live World Series of Poker Room with 20 tables. There are 2,300 slot machines and a poker room and was rebuilt at a cost of in excess of $250million. Horseshoe Indianapolis, located 20 minutes southeast of Indianapolis, is a racino that boasts the Grand Buffet, various other restaurants, gift shops and entertainment venues alongside the race track and casino as part of its 233,000 square foot plot.
